"The facilitation and space held by Djulz allowed me to shift through many personal limitations. Innately quiet and introverted, I usually create many barriers when making sound with others; however, the environment allowed me to instantly feel a connection to the drums and to the people around me. Soul Circles Drumming has opened me up to a whole new portal to self-healing."
- Karla Riddell
Our community classes will give you the opportunity to develop your drumming technique and your understanding of the fundamentals of African music in a joy-filled community atmosphere.
Classes are based on ancient rhythms and songs from the cultures of Mali and Burkina Faso. Over the duration of six weeks you will learn a complete arrangement and be introduced to methods of expanding in the music with your own phrasing through exercises designed to develop greater dexterity and musical understanding.

DUNDUN (BASS DRUM) CLASSES
The DunDun drums form the foundation of any West African drum arrangement. Learning the accompaniment they express, therefore, is an essential part of studying any traditional rhythm. Each course includes the opportunity to attend three traditional DunDun classes focussed on the main rhythm for that cycle. DunDun classes must be booked separately, and are $15 for Djembe players. Classes will be held from 8.15pm-9.15pm on weeks two, four and six of the cycle.
