Addictions Recovery Programs
Soul Circles Drumming works in collaboration with Community Health Organisations and Drug and Alcohol Addiction Recovery Centres around Australia to enhance existing programs with custom designed drumming workshops. Using the African drum and percussion instruments within intensive healing programs is both a great outlet for moving energy, and a powerful complementary modality.
Workshops are based on the premise that the spiritual, energetic and physical bodies may be brought into harmony by relating them to the four physical elements that exemplify such in the natural world. Clients are firstly invited to set intentions based on the elemental focus of the session, and to use these as reference points therein. They are then guided in the production of simple rhythms designed in accordance with the specific elemental vibration to offer them an intimate relationship with their creative process via the recognition of their connectivity with the Earth, with all of life, and with their purest selves. Because of their focus on congruency, these sessions lend themselves seamlessly to the needs of souls actively engaged in their individual healing journeys.
We offer one-off workshops and intensives, as well as programs that may be integrated within ongoing treatment and recovery plans. In the case of the latter, over the course of a four-week drumming program, clients are guided into a systematic activation of the elements through rhythmic practices. The benefits of activating each of these elements in turn are as follows:
Week 1: Air
Relating to the mind and thought, Air represents the seed of new creation . This element encourages contemplation of the beliefs, choices and perspectives that define the realities we experience . Clients are engaged with these concepts and encouraged to identify and release any tensions they may carry in their minds that prevent new inspiration from coming through. They are then guided in the production of a rhythm that holds the spaciousness and subtlety of this element.
Week 2: Fire
Relating to the spirit, Fire has the ability to animate thought (Air) into the feeling body. Clients are encouraged to ignite their imaginations to discover the wisdom of their greater selves, and are invited to appeal to this place when addressing any situation. They are then guided in the production of a rhythm that embodies the drive and energy of this element.
Week 3: Water
Relating to the receptive organs (those below the solar plexus), and to emotionality, Water teaches us to feel what is generated through thought. Embodying this element carries with it the wisdom of simplicity and intuition. Clients are encouraged to surrender to the wisdom of their deepest intuition and to the “flow” of their healing journey. They are then guided into the production of a rhythm that reflects the fluid nature of this element.
Week 4: Earth
Relating to the bones, muscles and tendons of the body, the element of Earth holds the other three - Air, Fire and Water - in balance, and represents the culmination of the creative process. Here, clients are encouraged to meditate on the plans they have conceived of throughout their recovery for a new life beyond the program. Hence, as the group is guided into the production of an Earth rhythm, the themes of all four elements coalesce and are reinforced.
Workshops include all instruments to be used during the session. For more information on what we can offer your organisation, please contact us.
